Make my radio interactive please

You know what I want – I want a streaming Internet radio station that allows me to rate each song they are playing.

I love the stations that are available through the web site: www.181.fm, but I really wish I could rate each song they play. Some songs are played too much, some I can’t stand, and some are fantastic.

Give me the opportunity to interact with the content so that, through listener feedback, they can build a better radio station(s).

Who is up for the challenge?

Internet Statistics

Frequently I am asked to provide information about the kind of people online. This is a great site for providing this kind of information:

For example, I just read that 70% of people age 50-64 use the Internet. Additionally, 1/3 of seniors are using the Internet (senior defined as those over age 65).

So if your a data geek like myself, enjoy.

An update on life – Jetta

So if you thought I was kidding about the new Pearl Jam album, here I sit writing a blog about an interesting event in life and the song Breath is playing in the background (yes, I’m singing along).

Anyways, on topic… I am helping my fiance buy a car. This will hopefully be our family vehicle, we’re not at the family stage yet, but I’m thinking long-term. In contrast, she’s thinking short term. Her dream is to buy a Mini and while I support that dream, the more we read about Jetta’s the more we liked.

All of the research has lead us to test drive a few of the cars. I’ve been in older model Jetta’s (2002 and back), but we went out to test drive the 2006. WOW, I’m impressed.

Here are some of the highlights as we see it:

- the diesel has fantastic fuel economy and is very environmentally friendly (the 2009’s are even better, but we want a vehicle just off lease to save on $$$)
- The features on base model are excellent. Now, I’ll admit, we’re not looking for base model features, but I’m blown away by the features available.
- the craftsmanship is very evident
- there are lots of little things that just make sense. For example, there are lights on the bottom of the doors for added safety .

There are lots of reasons why I think we are going to love this car. Of course, we don’t know yet… but I thought that this would be a good chance to start the conversation about Jetta’s.

I’ll keep you posted about our adventure in Jetta land – both the good and the bad. I’m also interested in hearing your stories about the car, lessons learned, etc.

A bit about this new site

So this is a bit about this new site. It’s from the About page.

A Bit About Me
I’m in communications: a web developer, marketer, print designer, communicator and much more. I’m the guy on the team who listens to the banter and makes sense of it so that the organization can take action. Allow me to be a bit boastful (it is my site after all), but I’m the guy who questions the guy who wants to “think out of the box”. After all, I usually find that their world is so crammed inside the box that they can’t see the inside edges, let alone dream of kicking the walls down and finding the solutions that work. Yes, I said solutions. In today’s world, there is never one solution that solves all of the problems. For just as there are “problems”, there must be “solutions”. A reason why it’s better to tackle these “challenges” (oh no, a new word) as a team, and the best reason to have me on that team.

A Bit About This Site
This site is dedicated to talking about challenges and solutions. Sometimes it might be a product that I have tried out, after all, this is a commercial society and products are built to solve problems. It could also be a problem I’ve run into and need a good solution. Oh, and this is also a place for me to talk to you about things. After all, who doesn’t enjoy a good rant/story.

I also want to hear back from you. I am a fan of doing my homework when I find solutions, but the cool thing about the world is that every second, of every day, someone is creating a better solution. So if you have something to say, then tell me. I will pose questions on here from time-to-time and they will probably take years to answer (I love posting questions on social sites such as Facebook. Go ahead try it. The responses are amazing).

What You Won’t Find on This Site
I’m going to try my hardest to ensure that the content is accurate. Now I can’t guarantee what other people post, but I sure will do my best to read everything. So I make a promise right now, you won’t find crap on this site! If you do, tell me ASAP and I’ll strive to fix it.

If you have a rant that you want to share with me, then e-mail me: drew@drewt.ca. Can’t promise I’ll post it, but I will read it. Oh, and don’t just start spouting off and swearing. Make it a good rant, something useful.

I’m back!

Well, after being knocked out of the world of blogging on my web site about two years ago, I’m back!

Why, you might ask, did I stop blogging here? Well, there are a variety of answers, but the real answer is… why am I back?

Over the next few weeks you will see this site expand into, what I hope will be, an interesting and interactive discussion.
